Single Cell Discoveries (SCD) has acquired TATAA Biocenter, bringing together complementary expertise in discovery transcriptomics, molecular analysis, assay development, and regulatory-ready bioanalysis.
The acquisition marks an important step in SCD’s evolution from a specialist discovery transcriptomics CRO to a precision biology partner that supports pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic customers from early discovery through validation and clinical development.
Connecting discovery with validation
SCD has built deep expertise in single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, high-throughput RNA sequencing, multi-omics and bioinformatics. TATAA Biocenter brings more than 20 years of expertise in qPCR, dPCR, NGS, proteomics and molecular assay development, alongside GLP- and GCLP-compliant bioanalysis.
Together, these capabilities create a more connected path through drug development.
A molecular target identified using single-cell sequencing, for example, can be further investigated using spatial transcriptomics or proteomics and subsequently translated into a qPCR or RNA-seq assay for regulated validation.
Instead of transferring samples, protocols, and data between multiple CROs, customers can now access these capabilities within one organization.
“This is a natural fit,” said Mauro Muraro, CEO of Single Cell Discoveries. “Customers kept telling us the same thing: they loved working with us on discovery but had to go elsewhere to validate targets for a clinical program. TATAA closes that gap.”
Two teams, complementary expertise
Together, SCD and TATAA comprise approximately 50 scientists across Utrecht, the Netherlands, and Gothenburg, Sweden.
TATAA’s Gothenburg operations and scientific teams will remain in place, while existing customer projects, workflows, quality systems and points of contact continue unchanged.
The difference is that customers of both organizations can now extend their studies across a much broader range of technologies and development stages.
Judith Vivie, COO, and Mauro Muraro, CEO, will lead the combined organization.
With the two teams coming together, SCD is taking an important step towards a simple goal: helping scientists move from biological discovery to validated results without losing continuity along the way.
