Can samples be safely handled within a standard BSL-1 laboratory? Biosafety level 1 (BSL-1) applies to laboratory settings in which personnel work with low-risk microbes that pose little to no threat of infection in healthy adults.

Sample Quality

We emphasize the importance of good quality samples. For our BioSkryb services, the following recommendations apply:

Viable (>70%), high quality cells were deposited in the wells or tube(s)

When samples are FACS sorted please make sure that:

The FACS sort ideally took less than 15 minutes per plate.

The cells are deposited in the Cell Buffer provided with the BioSkryb kits.

The plate was kept cool during the sorting (4 degrees Celcius) and immediately spun (@2000xG, 2 min, 4 degrees Celcius) and are stored on dry ice/-80 degrees Celcius after the sort.

If your samples don't reach the minimum viability requirement, please send an email to our lab team for more information.

Confirmation quality *

For cryopreserved samples: A high cell viability before cryopreservation does not always reflect a high cell viability post-thawing. It is very important to test this post-thawing viability in representative thawing experiments (read more about this topic).

In what buffer should I collect and store my samples?

It is important to make sure your cells or material are in Bioskryb's Cell Buffer. If this is not compatible with your workflow please reach out to our team.

What plates or tubes should I use to sort my cells into?

It is crucial to use supported sample containers only, as using unsupported tubes or plates can result in a failed experiment. You can find supported containers in our sample requirements page.

How should I send you the samples?
